MEC Yawa to campaign for surrender of more illegal firearms in Matlosana

North West MEC for Public Safety Howard Yawa is to give the 2010 Firearm Amnesty Campaign “Awulethu Umshini Wakhu-surrender your firearm” the final push for more illegal firearms to be surrendered through his outreach to Khuma, Klerksdorp, Jouberton and Kanana tomorrow, Thursday, 8 April 2010.

Yawa in partnership with City of Matlosana, Southern District Taxi Council and community policing structures in the Klerksdorp cluster takes the campaign message to Majova Freedom Square in Khuma at 11h00, Klerksdorp Taxi Rank at 12h00, Rex Shopping Complex in Jouberton at 12h50.

The last stop for the campaign outreach campaign will be at OAU offices in Kanana at 14h00. The 2010 Firearm Amnesty Campaign was carried by pastors in their messages throughout the Easter services. The last day of the national amnesty period is Sunday 11 April 2010.

People who are found in possession of unlicensed firearms, parts of firearms, including ammunition for which they do not have a license risk a jail period of 25 years.
