MEC Yawa assures Kgongwana family of arrest

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa on Friday assured the Kgongwana family through a representative of his confidence that the task team established to investigate the murder of editor and publisher of Mafikeng based Taxi Time, Thabo Kgongwana are working round the clock to arrest those responsible for his killing.

MEC Yawa earlier conveyed condolences to the family of Kgongwana whom he described as a progressive but critical journalist who hated crime and corruption with passion.

"T-Man's selfless contribution and visionary leadership in the community media sector will be sorely missed, "says Yawa.

Kgongwana's family has confirmed that Kgongwana, who was allegedly shot at close range from behind through the chest with an AK47 during an armed robbery at Mmabatho Palms Hotel on Wednesday night, is to be buried on Thursday.

The nine robbers who made off with an undisclosed sum of money, allegedly realised that Kgongwana had a camera on during the robbery.

Meanwhile, the North West Press Club is preparing a memorial service in honour of Kgongwana to be held at Mafikeng Civic Centre on Tuesday at 14h00.
