Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe sends condolences to the families of fifteen accident victims

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe sends condolences to the families of fifteen people who have died in an accident today, 24 January 2014 around 17h00 pm near Blackhill between Witbank and Ogies on R555 Road.

The accident involves a truck that was travelling towards the direction of Ogies which collided head on with a mini bus that was travelling towards the opposite direction.

Fifteen people including a child from the mini bus died on the spot and one seriously injured passenger has been rushed to Cosmos Hospital in Witbank. The driver of the truck survived with no injuries.

MEC Shongwe calls for thorough investigation on the accident to determine who was on the wrong side of the law.

“Cases like these should be prioritised and whoever is on the wrong must be harshly punished to show other drivers the consequences of negligence. We cannot continue to lose innocent souls because of impatience and negligence on our roads. This also dents the image of our beautiful province,” said Shongwe.
