MEC visits Port Elizabeth complex during EXCO outreach

The honourable MEC for Health Mr Phumulo Masualle accompanied by departmental officials visited health facilities around the Nelson Mandela Municipality on 15 July 2009.

The visit by MEC Masualle was part of the ongoing Provincial Exco outreach programme. The MEC visited Livingstone, Dora Nginza hospital and Empilweni TB hospital. Masualle visited the construction site at Livingstone to observe the building of the emergency and trauma unit that is currently being built within the hospital.

He said, “I am impressed with the work that has been done in Livingstone and I think we will be able to complete it on time,” The building of the emergency centre (trauma unit) built at a cost of R258 million is set to be completed in May 2010.

After he visited Empilweni TB hospital, the MEC acknowledged that there are still challenges that the department is faced with. These challenges, including the need for specialised equipment, are a priority of the department and will be addressed in the near future.
