North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Manketsi Tlhape is saddened by the tragic deaths of two teenagers, Andries Goitsemodimo Masilo (14) and Adam Ngakaemang Mpisa (17) who recently drowned in quarry at Chris Hani Township near Wolmaransstad.
On Sunday, four boys went swimming in the quarry near a dumping site when two of them got into difficulties while the two other boys managed to get out of the water and alerted police. Masilo and Mpisa were certified dead on the scene.
“We sympathise with their families during this difficult time of mourning and share their grief. We only hope that the Masilo family and the Mpitsa family find the strength to carry on during this unbearable time”, said MEC Tlhape. “The manner in which these deaths occurred was really unfortunate and excruciating”, she added
Furthermore, MEC Tlhape committed her department as well as the municipality to work hand in glove in ensuring that the necessary support is afforded to the bereaved families whilst also ensuring that the trenches are properly closed to avoid similar future incidents.
