Western Cape MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Theuns Botha, would like to congratulate Schalk Burger on being awarded the Comeback of the Year award at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Shanghai.
MEC Botha said that Burger’s return to international rugby after a miraculous recovery from a life-threatening illness is proof that determination and competitiveness are equally effective in the public sport fraternity and under challenging personal circumstances. Burger’s demonstration of his fighting spirit is a great example for our young sport people. We are proud of him, and as a government will support his endeavours in every way.”
