MEC Thabo Meeko on Free State being destination of choice for Easter weekend

Free State destination of choice for Easter weekend - MEC Meeko

In an effort to address the economic growth and lack of investment in tourism sector, DESTEA MEC Thabo Meeko is calling on domestic and international travellers/tourists to create new memories with their loved ones by exploring the Free State as their preferred destination of choice during Easter Weekend.

The tourism sector contributes immensely to the economy of the province and creates much needed jobs in sub-sectors such as restaurants, accommodation establishments, and game lodges.

MEC Meeko explained that everyone is welcome to experience the warmth and exceptional services provided by various tourism products such as accommodation establishments, culture, heritage, adventure, and events in the Free State. "I call on outdoor activity enthusiasts, wildlife lovers, water enthusiasts, sports fanatics, and everyone who wants to be in harmony with nature to safely rediscover and explore our beloved province," MEC Meeko said.

MEC further indicated that Free State is at the centre of it all; and it is known for attractions and provides tourism related activities for the young and old throughout the year.

All the districts have unique visitor experiences. Visitors can experience the Basotho cultural village, participate in thrilling adventure with the 4X4 and hiking trails found in Golden Gate, Clarens, and Fouriesburg.

In Mangaung, tourists can get the experience in one of the few digital planetarium at Naval Hill; visit the National Museum for informative and enjoyable experiences.

About 9.7km from the N1 between Colesberg and Springfontein, the Gariep Dam Nature Reserve offers water sports like angling, boating, and skiing.

For travellers seeking a typical Free State experience with activities such as wine tasting, gliding, and hiking, Sasolburg and neighboring towns have it all.

MEC Meeko encourages people to also visit affordable state resorts and reserves as they are counted amongst the best tourism destinations.

The nature reserves boast ten fully equipped chalets with amenities such as braai stands, swimming pools, and picnic areas.

This Easter weekend take a Sho’t left to the Free State, undoubtedly South Africa's playground for fresh new experiences.
