MEC Sikhumbuzo Kholwane fulfills dreams for four needy families

Following daunting months of Provincial Treasury and Big Five Harley Davidsons’ Community Development initiative fundraising campaign, four vulnerable families will finally have what had remained a dream for many years of their lives, a house for each family household.

MEC for Mpumalanga Finance Mr Sikhumbuzo Kholwane led the sponsorship representatives alongside community members in a walkabout in all four beneficiary families in Matsulu before addressing audience gathered in the hall an hour later at the weekend.

During the campaign the Provincial Treasury in partnership with participating sponsors and banks sought to raise funds which will be used to build and furnish at least four houses for the needy families in Matsulu and surroundings.

MEC Kholwane told community that although the campaign did not reach the projected target, he however expressed his gratitude shown by participants in the project.

“While the target of R400 000 was not reached, we are encouraged by the act of humanity displayed by all ticket holders and the companies that bought batches.”

MEC Kholwane reminded audience that the campaign is firmly entrenched to the main objective of the Nelson Mandela Month campaign in which the Provincial Treasury is also expected to actively take interest in the challenges that confronts the people in the province especially the needy communities.

“We are confronted with a daily experience of poverty, unemployment and inequality which have become a universal problem especially in developing nations such as ours,” MEC Kholwane reiterated.

The fundraising campaign started last year with MEC Kholwane announcing on the Provincial Treasury together with participating sponsors’ intention to plough back to the community through assisting the needy families to experience a better life.

Currently all the families are living under shadow of dilapidated congregated iron and plastic shacks without sanitation facilities and the situation will soon change for better the building of the houses are completed.
