MEC Sikhumbuzo Kholwane discusses economic transformation with business magnates

MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Sikhumbuzo Kholwane addressed an insightful business meeting with the local business fraternity to discuss the common goal of economic transformation in the province.

The finance services sector meeting was attended by the banks, insurance and audit firms in Mpumalanga at the Protea hotel conference hall on Tuesday, 11 November 2014.

MEC Kholwane said, “The meeting seeks to unite us around common vision of economic transformation, putting South Africa first for the better development of our communities.”

He appealed to all the finance sectors in the province to partner with government on skill development and said, “Good corporate governance is a forerunner to enhance the standing of the country and government in the eyes of the world and the people.

“No investor would like to invest in a government or institutions that have demonstrated its inability to handle and account for the public resources,” said MEC Kholwane further explaining that,

“Skills development is very key and should be more inculcated to our junior staff since the current crop of our staff is aging and relying too much on them could cost us in the near future when they could no longer carry out the tasks.”

Despite having more interesting engagements going on, Head of the Department Ms Nombedesho Nkamba shared the same sentiments with MEC Kholwane and asked each financial sector to positively contribute in assisting small macro-medium enterprises to sustain themselves.

Kholwane recapped that the provincial government was looking at finding a way to assist the small macro-medium enterprises have a single registration in the government database which will assist them appear in all departments as well as municipalities.

“This effort will assist us in terms of managing time and helping people with a easy and responsive way that is convenient to all of us,” recapped MEC Kholwane.
