MEC Shongwe commends SAPS for the arrest of Foxon murder suspects

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Vusi Shongwe has commended the police for the swift arrest of two suspects who were allegedly involved in the Hazyview attacks in the past few days.

The arrests occurred after several residents including tourists were attacked in the area.

MEC Shongwe praised the police led by Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela for their hard work and for ensuring that the perpetrators are behind bars.

“I must assure residents of the province that the police will not rest until all suspects terrorising community members are behind bars,” he said.

Shongwe requested political parties to stop using sensitive matters as a campaigning tool, but rather assist law enforcement agencies with information in order to secure convictions with regard to crime in general. He urged parties not to wait for a person to be killed and use the incident to garner support, but they must proactively involve themselves in programmes conducted by the department and South African Police Service (SAPS) in order to enhance policing.

“The calling of people to resign or to be fired will not stop crime in the province but working together will definitely assist the nation,” Shongwe said.

Early last week, two dangerous suspects who were wanted for series of crimes that includes house and business robberies, murder, rape, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and attempted murder were shot and killed after they allegedly opened fire to the police when they (police) were trying to apprehend them (suspects).

Shongwe said although both suspects were gunned down following a shoot out with the police, what should be commended is the police’s resolute to pursue the two suspects with a view of arresting them in order to bring them to book.

He saluted them saying they were brave as they placed their own lives on the line in order to protect the communities.
