MEC shocked by the death of bus operator

North West MEC for Public Works, Transport and Roads, Mahlakeng Mahlakeng, has reacted with deep shock at the death of one of the most established bus operators in the province, George Masia.

Masia of KGE Business Enterprise of Lichtenburg, died instantly when a car he was travelling in rammed into a truck on the Litchenburg Mafikeng roads between 13h00 and 14h00 yesterday.

Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction towards Mafikeng about 10 kilometres outside Lichtenburg.

"We are deeply saddened by his untimely death and my deepest condolences go to his family, relatives and many of his employees whose lives have changed for the better by his etude leadership and business acumen," Mahlakeng said.

KGE Masia Business Enterprise transported more than 5 600 learners from 60 schools in the areas of: Potchefstroom to Wolmarans, Ottosdal to Makwassie, Ventersdorp to Potchefstroom and Lichtenburg to Koster.

The company was awarded the first pilot project by the department on December 11 2003 for the transportation of farm learners and rural access. Masia who started as a driver years ago, began operating in January 2004 as the first scholar transport operator with 14 brand buses.

His contract with the department was for 60 months and was recently extended for 15 months.
