MEC Sefanyetso opens to new ideas to enhance service delivery

The recently appointed North West MEC for Housing, Desbo Sefanyetso has thrown her weight behind supporting President Jacob Zuma’s stance of non tolerance of laziness and corruption perceived to be rife within the public service. MEC Sefanyetso has urged officials in her department to channel all their efforts towards ensuring that all communities are able to enjoy the benefits of democracy, through the provision of houses during her address to the first general meeting of the department on Thursday.

“Our mandate as government is to provide houses, security and comfort to all; we need to do just that. Those who cannot perform their duties must either be removed or replaced. Our communities are looking upon us to change their lives and we can only do that if we work much harder,” she said. She also advised that her office door would always be open for inputs and suggestions from officials. “Protocol tends to delay service delivery,” she said emphatically.

Sefanyetso also issued a stern warning against contractors who continue to build houses that fall apart. She said her hands-on approach will include visiting housing projects and ensuring that people who occupy these houses, are the rightful owners. “If it means going from house to house to check on them, let it be,” she said.

She thanked her predecessor, MEC Howard Yawa for the good work done during his tenure.
