MEC Sebegoe urges communities to support government's intervention

The Acting North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebegoe has urged the communities of Matlosana, Maquassi Hills and Ditsobotla Local Municipalities to give their full support to the provincial government and its deployees in order for the recently invoked administrative intervention to succeed MEC Sebegoe was speaking during his recent visit to the three municipalities to officially inform them of this decision by the Executive Committee to invoke Section 139 (1)(b) of the Constitution.

He said that in order for this intervention to succeed, the provincial government will need full cooperation and support from communities, municipal employees and all relevant stakeholders.

“The provincial government has instituted an intervention in these three municipalities because it is necessary to do so, not because it wants to impose the extent of its constitutional power over municipalities. Teams of experts will be deployed in these three municipalities to help resuscitate them back to being viable and functional municipalities which will eventually deliver quality services to communities”.

“We therefore urge all relevant stakeholders involved in this intervention to fully support these deployees in speeding up the recovery process of these municipalities. The intervention will take place for a period not longer than six  months.

We expect municipal officials and councillors in these municipalities to lead by example and be the ones at the helm of supporting this intervention and give their full cooperation”, he said.
