MEC Sebegoe on service delivery issues in Bona Bona

In a quest to speed up the pace at which government responds to community issues, the North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebegoe, yesterday assembled a team comprising of representatives from various departments to work on finding a lasting solution to address service delivery issues raised by the community of Bona Bona near Morokweng in the Kagisano-Molopo local municipality.

The community has recently raised their concern over a range of service delivery issues ranging from the bad road condition, lack of household electricity connection, unreliable scholar transport and also called for the local clinic to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In his response, MEC Sebegoe assured the community that the main road from Morokweng to Bona Bona will now be re-surfaced/serviced at least twice a month.

“A list of households without electricity will be compiled and attended to as a matter of urgency and as we speak, four water tanks will be installed and filled up with water to address the shortage of water in the area.

In the meantime, we are looking at increasing the number of water borehole. Further discussions will take place to explore the possibility of building a water treatment plant to address the issue of salty water. As far as the issue of scholar transport is concerned, we will have marshals travelling with children to schools every day so that they are able to make sure that the buses leave and arrive on time. They will be able to provide feedback on a regular basis.

He called for improved inter-governmental relations amongst sector departments and stakeholders which are directly involved. “We need to improve the manner in which we respond to such issues way and move towards an integrated approach. This will help in curbing some of the issues raised here”.

A follow-up meeting with all stakeholders is scheduled for next week.
