MEC Sebegoe on Local Government Communicators’ Capacity Building Workshop

North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebegoe, has thrown his weight behind supporting local government communicators in the province.

MEC Sebegoe was addressing a 4-day local government communicators’ capacity building workshop which was a partnership between the NW Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Department of Cooperative Governance and the Government Communication (GCIS).

The workshop was intended to equip communicators with the necessary skills needed in their field of work such as creating a website using free website hosting sites, the website’s importance in government communication and using social media such as twitter and facebook to reach a bigger audience and communicate programs of government effectively using these platforms. Content development of key government messages and developing a communication strategy were also focal points of the workshop.

“There is a lot that government is doing in changing the lives of our people and that can only be known if communicators do their work. I am also aware of the challenges that government communicators are faced with, especially at local government level. All these challenges have been presented to EXCO which is chaired the Premier and you can be rest assured that they are received attention at the highest level”, he said.

MEC Sebegoe said that this was definitely not the last workshop. He said that there will be follow-up sessions very soon and urged those in attendance to be available

“I am certain that you will learn a lot and be able to go back to your respective municipalities to implement whatever it is that you would have learnt from this workshop” he said.
