The North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs Paul Sebegoe has called on members of the South African Municipal Worker Union to exercise discipline during their ongoing strike action.
MEC Sebegoe has also urged striking workers to desist from trashing, vandalism as well as victimizing non-striking workers. “Although we recognise the right of workers to embark on strike action, we hope that all parties involved find an amicable and lasting solution to the wage demands very soon such that the effects of the strikes on ordinary tax payers are lessened, he said.
MEC Sebegoe said he was hopeful that discussions between South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and union representatives will yield results and allow workers to return to work.
“It is important for us to have workers return to their posts, “roll up their sleeves” and make sure that state resources are utilized prudently to achieve government’s priorities as set out by President Jacob Zuma earlier this year”, MEC Sebegoe said.
