MEC Sebegoe call for calm in Ledig

The North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebegoe has called for restraint and order in Ledig near Sun City, following incidents of violence which erupted at the weekend.

“As the provincial government, we are worried about a trend that has developed in the province where communities resort to raising their grievances by engaging in acts of violence and destroying public properties in the process. We want to, in the strongest possible terms, condemn such a behaviour and appeal to our communities to raise their concerns in a peaceful and civilised manner by going through legitimate channels”, said MEC Sebegoe.

Some members of the community went on a rampage at the weekend destroying some of the properties in the area. They have levelled allegations of corruption and maladministration against the current traditional council.

MEC Sebegoe said it was regrettable that the situation has spiralled out of control with innocent parties being affected. He has sent his empathy to those families who had their properties destroyed in the process, including all those who may have been injured.

Meanwhile, MEC Sebegoe will be addressing a community meeting soon in an endeavour to mitigate the situation in Ledig.
