The Gauteng Department of Health is warning members of the public of a scam by a man who is allegedly offering employment at Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in exchange for money.
The department is calling on people not to pay anyone for jobs as that is not the proper way of getting employment in the public sector.
Allegations of the scams have surfaced following a number of vacant posts which were advertised by Gauteng EMS last year in order to maximise capacity in the communication centre, districts and bases. The positions were advertised in the media and were open to all Gauteng residents to apply. Applications were received and short listing and interviews were conducted. Most of the employees have started working.
Recently EMS has experienced several complaints from people who claim that they have been called by an individual who stated that he works in EMS, promising jobs for a fee of R10 000.
“As the department, we would like warn job seekers against this practice. “I encourage victims of this scam to report the matter to the police so the allegations can be thoroughly investigated and culprits brought to justice,” says MEC Papo.
He adds that no fee is requested for an application and or placement in the public sector.
These incidents were reported to the police and investigations are under way.
