MEC orders immediate probe to inhumane stance of Booysens and Mondeor police

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety has called for an immediate probe into the alleged callous and inhumane attitude displayed by police officers at the Booysens and Mondeor Police Stations.

A story on the apparent heartless treatment meted to a woman whose two children were murdered by an estranged husband, who also committed suicide, appears in today's Star newspaper. According to the newspaper article, the mother of the children got wind of the intention by her estranged husband to harm her two children and thereafter commit suicide. Advised by her in-laws to immediately report the intended crime to the police, the mother of the two children is reported to have hurried to Booysens Police Station seeking help.

It is alleged that the police who attended to the woman refused to assist her on account of a missing page on a 'protection order' the woman had been granted against her estranged husband. The police officer also refused to attend to the plight of the lady allegedly because the crime-scene about to be committed would be committed outside the jurisdiction of Booysens Police Station. Forced to rush to Mondeor Police Station, the lady again could not be assisted by police on duty on grounds that they were about to knock off duty. Thanks to all these dubious and decidedly utterly inhumane mumblings, two innocent children were butchered by a father who proceeded to commit suicide.

"Insidious and cruel behaviour such as this does not belong to a police service of a democratic order such as ours. Investigations into such backward and anti-social behaviour must be investigated immediately and those in charge must ensure that appropriate action is taken without waste of time," said MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu after getting a briefing on the incident
