MEC opens Qolombana clinic

The MEC for Health Honourable Sicelo Gqobana officially opened Qolombana Clinic in Mthatha on Monday, 21 March 2011.

Situated just outside Mthatha, the clinic started operating in 2009 and it services the following areas; Qolombana location, Matyeba, Ngqwala, Nqadu and Lucingweni. All health services are available including Voluntary and Counselling Testing (VCT) and maternity services.

One of the community members Novumile Mbobo said she was very excited that they no longer had to travel long distances to receive health care services and that they will no longer worry about being attacked while going to seek these services as the area they used to travel through has a very high crime rate.

Speaking at the official opening, the MEC highlighted that the department is on a mission to employ more clinical staff and pleaded with nurses to change their attitudes. He further encouraged the nurses to go to the community and do door to door visits to make sure that people who are not able to come to the clinic receive health services in their doorsteps.
