The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Norman Mokoena has tabled the section 106 investigation report to the Emalahleni local municipality.
The report follows an investigation that was conducted in the municipality in terms of section 106(1) (b) of the Local Government Municipal Systems Act (act No.32 of 2000), after he received allegations that the municipality was failing to meet its constitutional obligations. The investigation centred around allegations of maladministration, fraud, nepotism, corruption, and poor service delivery.
On tabling the report, MEC Mokoena expressed his confidence that the municipality will deal adequately with the report. He stressed that it was important for the municipality to act on the recommendations of the investigation, as failure to act on such reports impacts negatively on the level of public confidence in local government.
“The municipality is expected to deal swiftly with the recommendations and ensure that individuals implicated in any wrong doing are brought to book irrespective of the positions that they hold” said Mokoena.
MEC Mokoena would also like to thank all stakeholders who cooperated during the investigations, especially staff and members of the community who came up with both verbal and written submissions.
“As government we remain committed to addressing all the problems that are faced by communities. We remain resolute to ensuring that we work with the community to deal with all the issues in a transparent manner.” said Mokoena.
When the municipality has dealt with the report it will give feedback to the affected communities.
