MEC Norman Mokoena condemns acts of public disruption in Mbombela local municipality

The MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Norman Mokoena has noted with great concern today’s acts of public disruption that happened in the area of Daantjie and Luphisi in the Mbombela local municipality.

MEC Mokoena has stated that while we respect the individual’s right to voice their concerns through protests, however such protests should be within the ambit of the law. He has also dispelled the misinformation that has been pedalled by some mischievous individuals that he met with the community and made certain commitments to them.

“I have not met with the community, however now that their problems have been brought to our attention l have dispatched a team of officials from the department to go and help the community resolve their problems. We are giving this matter serious attention and are treating it as a top priority as we have done in all the other areas where there have been problems.” said Mokoena.

The department remains committed to the resolution of issues raised by the community of Pienaar. We also encourage the community leaders and the community to engage in dialogue to resolve any dispute. As the democratic government chosen by the people we are open to dialogue.

MEC Mokoena has also reiterated that government will not tolerate any acts of violence and destruction to property, the department appeals for restraint and calm from all the people of Daantjie and Luphisi.

The MEC for Public Works Roads and Transport, Dr Clifford Mukansi has also visited the area.
