Despite challenges on the shortage of classrooms, furniture and toilets that are not in good conditions, learning and teaching was in progress on the second day of school’s re-opening for 2013 calendar year at the Laer Skool Diamantrif in Makwasie Hills in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality.
During his visit as part of back to school campaign at Diamantrif, North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison Nono Maloyi was impressed by the state of readiness of the school as systems were in place where learner registration process was completed and learning and teaching was fully in process and the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) was already operating as the kids were being fed.
“It’s all systems go here and we need to applaud the school for their readiness despite all challenges their faced with,” he said.
The MEC further expressed his gratitude on the school environment saying it was welcoming and safe to be around.
Meanwhile, Maloyi encouraged the school to work harder in producing good results at the end of the year. “Primary is a foundation phase and we need to improve and work hard at all times,” he said.
In his presentation to the MEC, the school’s headmaster Mr Montshiwa said the school is in a process to shift from the Afrikaans to English medium. “We’ve been operating with Afrikaans as first language but we are now in a process of making English our first language,” said the school principal who further informed the MEC that the school is further changing the name.
Montshioa indicated that the school is currently under renovations and appreciated learners and parent’s contributions and commitments on the developments of the school.
