The North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Nono Maloyi has committed his department to fight fraud and said will not tolerate corrupt or fraudulent activities, whether internal or external and will vigorously pursue and prosecute any parties, by all legal means available, which engage in such practices or attempt to do so.
In a speech, addressed by the Human Settlements Branch, Acting Head of Department, Monnapula Motlogelwa on his behalf, Maloyi raised a concern on how fraud and corruption perturbs service delivery and disadvantages communities at the ground.
“Fraud and Corruption presents a significant potential risk to the Department’s assets, service delivery and it compromises the reputation of the Department,” he said.
The MEC said the strategy is established to facilitate the development of internal controls which will assist in the prevention and detection of fraud and corruption, as well as provide guidelines as to how to respond should instances of fraud and corruption be identified.
He said the role of stakeholders in the fight against fraud and corruption is critical and he further committed the department in working with all internal and external stakeholders.
“We are in this together, that is why there is a need for the public and private sector to work very closely to develop and implement strategies aimed at combating this challenge,” said Maloyi, who further emphasised that the strategy applies to all departmental employees, stakeholders, contractors, suppliers and any other party doing business with the department.
The departmental MEC further committed that the department will work hand in hand with the Provincial Anti-Corruption Forum (PACF) which was officially launched in 2006, by the then North West Premier Edna Molewa and the local church organiations.
