The provincial executive of the Gauteng provincial government is embarking on a series of Public Participation Focus Week (izimbizo) in the province from the 9 to 13 November 2009.
The izimbizo provide government officials and communities an opportunity to engage on various service delivery challenges and finding solutions to them.
MEC Nkosi was allocated three regions to attend to namely; Alberton, in Ekurhuleni where he met with various taxi structures and driving schools owners. The other izimbizo took place in Kagiso on the West Rand while the other was in Bophelong Township in the Sedibeng region. These involve communities articulating their problems ranging from the lack of access to basic services, crime and housing amongst others.
The izimbizo are part of a government’s plan to build partnerships across communities supporting the President’s call for government to serve the poor. They also allow for consultation and feedback on programmes undertaken by government in improving the lives of residents.
These platforms have enabled MEC Nkosi to interact and exchange ideas to problems experienced by communities and stakeholders in accessing services rendered by the department. These engagements with different stakeholders will also assist the department in improving internal structures in order to respond positively to issues raised. The matters raised will help the department to align its operations to be responsive to the needs of its clients and improve on its capacity to render services.
