The North West MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mothibedi Kegakilwe has appointed a task team made of officials from the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to investigate allegations of corruption and maladministration, which have been leveled against the intervention team and senior officials of Tswaing local municipality.
The task team is constituted by representatives from legal, finance, monitoring and evaluation sections of the department and is expected to have completed the work at the end of the week.
“This team is expected to conduct thorough investigation and submit a report to my office” said MEC Kegakilwe.
He has since placed the intervention team on a weeklong special leave and appointed a senior official in the department, Mr Seth Ramagaga to act as an Administrator whilst the investigations continue.
Last week, MEC Kegakilwe met with the councilors, intervention team and workers of Tswaing, after the workers downed tools, following non-payment of pension funds by the municipality.
The municipality was placed under Section 139(1)(b) (of the Constitution) intervention in May last year due to poor service delivery and financial management, amongst other things.
