MEC Molebatsi Bopape wishes National Netball team luck for World Cup tournament

In bidding the National Netball team farewell as they head to the World Cup tournament in Australia starting in August, the Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts Culture and Recreation Ms Molebatsi Bopape has called upon all South Africans to support the team as they seek to make history and do the country proud.

The MEC spoke on behalf of the Minister of Sport and Recreation and the Gauteng Provincial Government during the team’s send-off over the weekend. The team arrived in New Zealand today where they will play two test matches (with New Zealand) before going to Australia for the start of the tournament from 7-16 August.

“That the team left the country on Mandela Day 18 July (2015), we believe they carry with them the Mandela Magic to bring the trophy home to continue the celebration of the spirit and legacy left to us by the former state President”.

“They will also be playing during a significant month of August wherein the country will honour its women. Their win will, like the women of 1956, go a long way in rewriting the story of South Africa’s transformation and triumph. As we mark the 59th anniversary of the Women’s March team’s success will indeed bring pride and joy to the women of South Africa. We hope that they will represent the country well and go all the way until the finish line”.

“We also call upon everyone including the members of the media to profile and support women sport as much as they do with other sport, concluded Bopape.
