Gauteng Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC, Molebatsi Bopape has expressed shock at learning about the death of three of South Africa’s beloved entertainers, television personality Simba Mhere, music promoter and businessman Prosper Mkwaiwa and multi-platinum selling musician Jacky Lehlake, popularly known as Bojo Mujo. The trio passed away over the weekend under different circumstances.
Simba Mhere will be remembered for his charms as a presenter on SABC 3 lifestyle programme Top Billing, he was killed in a car crash on Saturday morning. Pretoria-based Jacky Lehlake, who also passed away in the early hours of Saturday after a short illness, was relatively shunned in the mainstream media but his music was adored by throngs of fans locally and in countries such as Swaziland, Botswana and Lesotho. Music mogul Mkwaiwa perished on Sunday night after complaining about a fever.
Bopape said: “It’s deeply saddening to have lost all three young men so suddenly, especially as they have all made such a significant contribution to the arts and entertainment industry. Simba had been a rising television star with his career ahead of him while Lehlake’s music was celebrated in all of Southern Africa. Prosper’s contributions to the local music industry cannot go unnoticed and his passing leaves just us much aggrieved, I would like to extend our deepest condolences on behalf of the Gauteng Government to their friends, fans and their families.”
