MEC Mohono urges youth summit delegates to stay focused

North West MEC for Human Settlements Desbo Mohono on Thursday joined a team of 50 young men and women delegates representing the province in the National Youth in Human Settlements Summit underway at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.

Mohono said that it is exciting to see young people positively responding to the Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale’s significant statement that the success of Human Settlements’ vision 2030 depends on the involvement young people in building their own future homes.

Mohono told the young people that, it is as such, that a platform was created  for young people to participate in shaping the Human Settlements 2030 delivery programme.
Sharing words of encouragement to her provincial representatives, Mohono encouraged young men and women to fully participate and stay focused on  the summit.

MEC Mohono also congratulated young women who are currently making a mark in the formerly male dominated industry. “Construction remains a male dominated industry in the country, so it is very exciting to see young people like you more especially young women making a mark in the industry.”

“In your participation during this summit you must always bear in mind that part of the objectives here is to develop a shared understanding and consensus on the development and implementation of Vision 2030, to mobilise  young people to participate in the human settlements delivery value chain and further to provide a structured platform for your engagement in the broader 2030 Human Settlements vision,” said Mohono.

Some of the North West delegates are young women who had volunteered their services during last year’s National Women’s Build that constructed 56 houses for the vulnerable and marginalised women groups held in Coligny in the Ditsobotla Local Municipality.

The two day Youth in Human Settlements Summit  that ends on Friday has positively mobilised youth from across the country through various formations to participate in developing a Programme of Action (PoA) for Human Settlements for 2030.
