MEC Mohono shocked and enraged by alleged rape of learner at the close of Women’s month

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Desbo Mohono has expressed shock and is outraged by allegations that a 13-year-old pupil was abducted and raped by a 46-year-old educator in Jericho outside Brits in the North West Province.

MEC Mohono wishes to condemn in the strongest term possible the despicable and shameful act allegedly committed by an educator who is supposed to act in loco parentis.

“Rape is a heinous crime against women and girl children that in most cases has psychological post-traumatic stress disorder and lifelong effects if the victim does not receive immediate support and care. I therefore call on the relevant institutions to ensure that the affected learner receives the necessary support,” said Mohono.

The educator who is attached to a secondary school in Jericho was held at the local police station and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
