North West MEC Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono is to launch construction of Community Residential Units(CRU's) at a sod turning ceremony in an effort to expand access to housing to accommodate 400 people.
The multimillion project Initiated in partnership with Tlokwe Local Municipality will also improve the living conditions of the people and further to reduce the housing backlog in the province.
The CRU, which aims to facilitate the provision of secure, stable rental tenure for lower income persons and provides a coherent framework for dealing with the many different forms of existing public sector residential accommodation, will target persons and households earning between R800 and R3500 per month who are not able to be accommodated in the formal private rental and social housing market.
