North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono has challenged youth from across provinces to play their role in designing proper Human Settlements.
Addressing thousands of delegates from across the country attending the Youth in Human Settlements Summit on Thursday afternoon in Durban, MEC Mohono said that the role of young people in designing proper human settlements is very key as they are also beneficiaries of the programme.
“We can’t plan for you, without you and don’t stand and watch, you have a role to play in ensuring that Human Settlements that would be created in this summit haveall social amenities to support youth development,” said Mohono.
She said young people should also realise that human settlements are not only about construction but are primarily about creating vibrant sustainable settlements that support people development.
“This summit is not only about entrepreneurs or about being rich but a challenge to our youth to help us address the skills shortage by availing themselves for training asengineers, surveyors, town planners, etc. in preparation you to take your rightful places in the economy and housing delivery value chain. We won’t be there in future but you will be there so you should be proud that you are here today to determine your future ,” concluded Mohono.
The National Youth in Human Settlements Summit currently held in Olive Convention Centre in Durban is expected to bear fruits for future leaders of the country.
