“There is no place in the public service for those practicing corruption, sexism, nepotism and favouritism,” North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono proclaimed on Sunday, as she appealed to Police Prisons and Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) to support anti-corruption and increased representation of women in management as part of transformation of the criminal justice system.
MEC Mohono commended members of the South African Police Service, Correctional Services and Provincial Road Traffic Management Unit for supporting their leadership in their organisation and for remaining loyal to the constitution and their oaths of office even when some of their leaders failed to live up to high levels of professionalism and integrity that was expected from them.
Mohono said that government counted on POPCRU for support to accelerate a 50-50 representation of women in senior and middle management in their organisations as this was not negotiable.
“The days when women were regarded as add-ons, tea-girls, typists are over. They should occupy meaningful positions of responsibility and authority in the police, traffic and correctional services” she declared.
