MEC Mohono advises couples involved in breakups to seek professional help

Couples involved in conflicts should seek urgent professional help instead of taking matters into their own hands, North West MEC for Human Settlement, Ms Desbo Mohono advised on Tuesday.

MEC Mohono’s advice follows a chilling incident that has left the North West Province and the nation in shock after a Mabeskraal father, Moeketsi Tau hanged his four year old son, Kgotso before putting a noose around his own neck after a bitter fight with his estranged girlfriend last week.

“Those who cannot accept that breakups are part and parcel of life and move on should not take it out on innocent children and their partners,” emphasised the MEC in condemning the gruesome incident.

Mohono commends the neighbours who had intervened to stop Tau from assaulting the child’s mother, 40-year-old Joyce Molefe as she in most likelihood would have suffered the same fate as his son as three ropes were purportedly found at her house after the ghastly and shame act was committed.

The enraged Tau reportedly grabbed his son before he fled the scene after the boy ran back to his father concerned about his wellbeing as he was involved in a bitter fight with neighbours who fought him to keep him away from Molefe.

The mother who also has two daughters aged 23 and 19 had to seek refuge at the local police station where she spend the night and only learnt of her heartrending loss in the morning.

Tau and his son were buried in two separate funerals held in Selocha and Manamela sections in Mabeskraal over the weekend.
