MEC Mhaule extends best wishes to school choirs participating at national championship

The MEC for Education, Mrs Reginah Mhaule extends her best wishes to the 22 choirs that will represent Mpumalanga province in the South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod, national championships scheduled to take place from 15 to 17 July 2014 at the Durban ICC.

The 22 choirs that will participate in the National Championships obtained position one in different genres of choral music at the provincial championships held in May 2014 at Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

The display by these provincial choirs was of high standard and indeed they were able to earn their place in the national championships.

“The South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod is one of the schools’ curriculum enrichment programmes that the department supports as it aims to promote unity, social transformation and cohesion amongst young South Africans. I take this time to express my best wishes to all the participants that are going to represent our province at national level. At the same time I wish to thank teachers, conductors, parents and everyone who made it possible for our learners to reach this level. This competition has a potential to unearth talent, instil discipline and expose our learners to the highest levels of musical renditions”, said MEC Mhaule

The involvement of learners in extramural activities is an important task as it teaches them discipline, encourages team work and improves time management skills and so on. It also plays an important role in building the learners’ self-esteem.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education once more takes this time to wish all the schools that will be participating in the 2014 National South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod the best of luck in their endeavour of flying the Mpumalanga flag high.
