Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC Ntombi Mekgwe is saddened by the news that a third year student nurse from Chris Hani Baragwanath Nursing College committed suicide at the hospital yesterday.
Around lunch time yesterday, other students noted that Musawakhe Mazibuko was planning to commit suicide and they called internal security personnel immediately.
Upon hearing what was about to happen, internal security rushed to the scene. After assessing the situation, they called the police including a negotiator, paramedics, nursing manager on duty as well as Musawakhe’s sister, Thandeka whom he requested to see.
Despite attempts by all these people to stop him, the third year student, Musawakhe from Sebokeng, jumped to his death.
MEC Mekgwe sends her condolences to the Mazibuko family and relatives. “Our prayers are with you during this difficult time and we will continue to ask the Lord to give you strength to deal with your loss,” she said.
