MEC Mekgwe to hand out school uniform packs in Duduza, Gauteng Health and Social Development

Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC, Ntombi Mekgwe, will this Friday, 21 October 2011, hand out school uniform packs to over 400 pupils affected by a tornado that hit Duduza, earlier this month.

The 429 pupils from 17 schools were identified by 25 social workers who were deployed on site primarily, to provide trauma counselling, needs analysis in terms of school uniform, and assesses affected households.

The disaster caused a destruction of 692 houses, a few cars, and household furniture. The residents including school going children lost school uniform and books, identification documents and other personal belongings in this disaster. A total of about 2 500 people were affected.
