The MEC for Gauteng Community Safety Ms Faith Mazibuko congratulates police for the swift and determined arrest of the 5fm radio personality Gareth Cliff for exceeding the speed limit. The radio personality was caught driving at 183km/h on a 120km/h zone. Cliff was arrested, detained and later released on bail by Lyttleton SAPS on charges of excessive speeding as well as reckless and negligent driving. He appeared yesterday at the Pretoria magistrate court and the case was postponed to 15 March 2012.
MEC Mazibuko calls upon on all the motorists, irrespective of their social status to be cautious when using roads in the province as the Gauteng Traffic Police and other law enforcement agencies will be on the lookout for those that break the rules of the road. “By excessive speeding the motorists are not only putting their lives in danger, but also endangering other road users alike. Our roads are not racecourse, for those that want to race they must make use of places such as Kyalami Racecourse, not our public roads”. Said MEC Mazibuko.
More arrests are imminent and our traffic officials are monitoring the roads daily. It is not advisable to resort to excessive speeding for any reason or engagement.
