The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, today visited the families of murdered teen Lungile Kubeka and Nkosi respectively in Snake Park, Soweto to pay her condolences, render support and provide progress into the murder cases.
The 15 year old Kubeka was found murdered and dumped at the neighbour’s yard last week, while the friend from the Nkosi family committed suicide on hearing the brutal murder of her friend.
Six suspects have since been arrested and appeared at the Roodepoort Magistrate Court today, facing charges of murder. Of the six suspects, two were reminded in custody while the four were released for further investigation. The MEC also instructed the police to continue providing regular feedbacks to the families as investigations progresses.
“It is quite sad to learn about this gruesome and inhuman act of gender based violence in the midst of celebrating women month. I call upon men to partner in this fight against gender based violence. Let them join hands in one voice saying not in our name, and you are not man enough if you abuse or molest women or girl child,” said MEC Mazibuko.
Due to the unconcealed extreme distress and a feeling of fear which has been instilled to both families, the MEC has acted decisively by arranging counseling program as from Tuesday by a dedicated team from Ikhaya Lethemba, a one stop centre for abused women and children located in Braamfontein.
