Congratulations to new coaches and manager at Free State Cricket
The MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mrs Mathabo Leeto, will like to congratulate Mr Edward Mokoenanyana as the new coach of Free State Cricket. The appointment of Mr Mokoenanyana follows the resignation of Mr Rudolf Steyn as the coach of Free State Cricket to pursue his business interests.
The appointment of Mr Mokoenanyana is historical. He will be the first black person ever to coach the Free State Cricket. His appointment is also significant in the drive towards the realisation of transformation in the sporting arena. Whilst his appointment is an important factor in terms of transformation, it is also based on merits given his track record. He is currently by Grey College School in Bloemfontein. He has been involved with Free State Cricket for over eight (8) years and also served on Free State Cricket board. He has a level three (3) coaching certificate. There is no doubt that his contribution will be immense in the development and advancement of cricket in the Free State.
The fact that another black person, Mr Pena Motsoane, has been appointed as an Assistant Coach is indicative of the new winds of change that blowing across Free State Cricket. To top it all, Mr Chippa Selesho, has also been appointed as the manager of the team. He also possesses a lot of knowledge having been involved with cricket from grassroots level until reaching the provincial levels.
Mrs Leeto is impressed by these developments and will like to encourage Free State Cricket not to deviate from these important developments and for all other sporting codes to follow suit.
“I have no doubt that the new coaches and manager the Free State Cricket will do us proud as Free Staters. It is our expectation that the entire management team at Free State Cricket will work together to ensure good results in the cricket field to make the Free State the beacon of hope in the sporting arena”, stated Mrs Leeto.
