MEC Masoga conveys his condolences to the families of the deceased as a result on the N1 accident which took place before the Capricorn toll plaza

The MEC responsible for Roads and Transport Mr Lehlogonolo Masoga expressed his heart-felt condolences to the families, loved ones and friends of the deceased following an accident which happened on Friday, 22 November 2013 at N1 road just before the Capricorn plaza.

The accident occurred after the bus overtook on the barrier line and collided head on with a sedan. Eleven people died on impact including drivers of both the bus and the sedan. Six people were critically injured, 11 seriously injured while 30 people sustained minor injuries.

“On behalf of the Roads and Transport family, we wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones, families, friends and colleagues of all those who lost their lives and those who were injured. We wish speedy recovery to those who are receiving treatment as a result of the accident. We also urge all road users, motorists and pedestrians alike to exercise great caution and obey all the rules of the road at all times without exceptions’’ said Masoga.

This accident occurs at a time when the department is intensifying its road safety campaign ahead of the festive season. Masoga has called on all South Africans to support and become part of the Arrive Alive campaign which is aimed at educating our people about road safety and also minimising road fatalities.
