North West Acting MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Dr Magome Masike commends police for the arrest of five suspects in an apparent botched robbery at a filling station in Klerksdorp in the North West province on Tuesday night.
MEC Masike in appreciating excellent policing said that criminals are still to feel the heat as police are getting smarter and more organised due to improved crime intelligence and support from communities.
According to police, a stakeout by the Hawks specialist unit on Tuesday afternoon paid off when five men arrived in a Toyota Corolla at around 20h30.
The five suspects arrived unaware of the police's presence at the petrol filling station and at about 20h30 just before the suspects pounced into the kiosk, the police pounced on them.
The five aged between 22 and 35 years were arrested on charges of attempted business robbery and the illegal possession of a firearm and are due to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's court on Thursday.
Over 5 512 suspects were arrested for various crimes across the province since police embarked on Duty Call Festive Season Crime Fighting Campaign on the 1 October 2010.
