MEC Makalo Mohale reflects back on 2019

MEC for the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Makalo Mohale

The Christmas Season, the Yuletide Season, the Holiday Season, is always a time of reflection. Christmas is a special sacred and a blessed time of the year, It is a season of love and goodwill towards all; a time for reunion with families and close friends; a careful reflection on the year past and the year that lies ahead; a time when we reflect on what we could have done better and what we intended to do better in the coming year ahead.

As we reflect back, it is also a time for us to forget the things that have divided us throughout the year and to celebrate the things that binds us together as a province of the Free State.

Let us ask ourselves whether we could have done more to please God by serving the needs of our fellow Free Staters. The coming year will be full of challenges but we should rest now and come back energised to be able to give our people the best possible service delivery the Free State Government can offer. But nonetheless, we can look back with pride at our achievements in improving the economy of this province by creating more jobs and making our country a better place to live in.

Despite any challenges of the past 12 months, as the MEC of this department, I can say with confidence, that the Free State Province is seeing an upsurge in the economy, as our provincial government forges ahead with the mandate of creating more jobs and a better life for all and putting the province in a better position economically.

Those who will be driving through the Free State, please take a moment and appreciate what the Free State has to offer to the traveller. During this festive season, I encourage you to tour our province. The Free State is endowed with natural resources like mountains, dams, rivers and is an open sky country. Discover the free state of mind. You can enjoy activities such as boat riding, fishing, 4x4 trails, braai and picnic spots, chalets and swimming pools. Please use and enjoy our facilities, and keep our environment as clean as possible.

Safety at these facilities is of paramount and visitors must comply with the rules and regulations. To those who consume alcohol please restrain from using swimming pools, dams and rivers when your state of sobriety is questionable. As we celebrate this wonderful time, let’s do so with responsibility and care, I’m urging motorists to be mindful of the three main causes of accidents on our roads: that is speed, drinking and driving and fatigue.

Let us come back refreshed and energized in 2020 with double efforts towards achieving the vision and mission of the department

On behalf of the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in the Free State, may your Christmas sparkle with moments of love, laughter and goodwill and may the year ahead be full of contentment and joy.
