The Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile wishes all people in Gauteng celebrating Diwali a spiritual and prosperous event.
The Diwali festival takes place two weeks after the conclusion of our Heritage month and it has grown from strength to strength over the 90 decades of its existence.
The festival is an important tool through which we must inculcate a value system that teaches tolerance, peace and peoples to people’s solidarity. Such a value system is one that has as its nucleus the ancient adage – Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu – You are because I am!
This year’s theme ‘’Light up the world’’ signifies the condition of the daily struggles our people face in the quest to gain access to decent shelter, clean water, education and the extension of the frontiers of opportunity for all.
In our drive to ‘’light up the world’’ we are making a solemn declaration that we will work tirelessly as ambassadors of goodwill whose task is to ensure that we decisively overcome the legacy of under-development, grinding poverty and economic neglect.
