Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile will join the thousands of runners to take part in the 2011 installment of the Soweto Marathon.
This is the second major race Maile will be taking part in this year. Last month he took part in the City to City and has expressed satisfaction with his performance and hopes to improve.
He will be participating in the 10km walk of the Marathon.
‘’We must put words into action in the course of carrying out our work as political leaders. That is why we have been on a trail to mobilise scores of young people to take part in the Soweto Marathon. We have successfully mobilised 2135 athletes to take part.
The participants are made up of our staff in the office and the hubs, and the various clubs in various parts of Gauteng” – said Maile.
The department has contributed R184 000.00 towards registration fees for participants.
‘’Mass participation programmes such as the Soweto Marathon contribute towards healthy living and we urge the people of Gauteng to actively take part” – added Maile.
