Gauteng Economic Development MEC, Qedani Mahlangu, welcomes the decision by the South Gauteng High Court to continue the termination of the Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB) pending the Inter-governmental processes to settle the dispute.
The MEC had terminated the membership of various board members in terms of the powers vested in her according to the Gauteng Gambling Board Act no 4 of 1995. The GGB members instituted a legal action challenging MEC’s powers to terminate their respective membership.
In pursuance of the Inter-governmental Framework (IGFA) Act no13 of 2005, in relation to resolution of disputes between inter-governmental organs of the state, the parties have resolved through a court settlement to exhaust the dispute resolution mechanism as envisaged in the IGFA in an endeavour to resolve the matter amicably.
Whilst not pleased with the stance adopted by the Gauteng Gambling Board, the MEC remains committed to resolve the matter amicably.
