Gauteng Economic Development MEC, Qedani Mahlangu, welcomes the ruling by the South Gauteng High Court confirming her decision to terminate the membership of the Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB).
The MEC had terminated the membership of all board members in terms of the powers vested in her by the Gauteng Gambling Act no 4 of 1995. The GGB members instituted legal action challenging the MEC’s powers in regard to their membership.
In welcoming the court’s decision, MEC Mahlangu says while the department is happy with the ruling, it is regrettable that this matter had been dragged to court, thus affecting service delivery.
“The court’s ruling confirms the correctness of our long held view that the decision was in the best interest of our communities”, she said.
