MEC Mahlangu condemns sexual abuse of children

Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC, Qedani Mahlangu, has expressed concern about the growing incidents of sexual abuse of young girls in the province.

The MEC’s comments comes amid media reports this morning about a 34 year old man from Kagiso in the West Rand who allegedly raped his eight year old daughter while his wife was at church.

The MEC says such incidents are alarming and cannot be allowed to continue. She urged community members to assist the department as well as the police in fighting this scourge.

“Children as well as other vulnerable groups in society should be protected from abuse. I urge the justice system to severely punish those who abuse the vulnerable in society,” says MEC Mahlangu.

The man appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate court this morning facing charges of rape.
