MEC Mahlakeng Mahlakeng appointed Gobodo Incorporated on 27 September 2010 to investigate if due process was followed in leasing offices for the Department Health headquarters situated opposite the Crossing Shopping Complex in Mafikeng.
Gobodo Incorporated was appointed following enquires from Treasury that procurement procedures undertaken in the signing of the R40 million lease agreement a year may have been in breach of tender regulations.
The department as a custodian of provincial state properties must ensure that departments have office accommodation and therefore facilitated a lease agreement on 2 December 2009 between Peolwane Properties and Department of Health. This agreement commences November 2011 and will end November 2021 as the building in question is still under construction.
The department’s involvement in the process was only in invitation of bidders in the process.
MEC Mahlakeng said, “by enlisting services of this audit firm, my department is not accepting nor denying that tender procedures were not followed. We hope that this investigation will throw some light on the murky areas that might still linger in the awarding of this tender”.
Gobodo is expected to report its finding within a month. Findings will be made public once the department has studied the contents of such a report.
