MEC Masuku takes 'going back to school' by storm
MEC Madala Masuku accompanied by the circuit manager, Mr P Linkwati and other members of the mayoral committee, made a bracing gesture and visited a number of schools on their day one in the Ehlanzeni District to advice children and assessed their learning environment.
These visits are part of the constant executive assessment outreach to monitor all schools in the province with the inspection to improve their academic work and results in spite of their recent performance.
MEC Masuku first visited the Valencia Combined School children where he interacted with the learners and advised them to consider studying relentlessly until they achieve their goals and nothing else. He said, “Do not confuse your responsibility of studying as a child with that of your parents.
“Your parents have the responsibility to go to work and take good care of you, and yours is to study and play as a child, nothing more and nothing less. It is only through education that you can see the possibility of making this world a better place for you. Doing what is supposed to be done by your parents will certainly distract you from doing what is right as a child because it is not your responsibility.
Despite seeing a slight drop this year and attaining 86%, this school has never disappointed the District before and has always been known for scoring anything above 90%, Mr Linkwati said. He further added that the school assessments and visits by the executive members had had a positive impact in perking up the confidence of the children and motivated them to give their all and this was apparent in their previous performances.
Mr Linkwati said, “We are still going to come here as many times as we can. Now it is up to you my good learners to choose how you want us to remember you. It is either by scoring distinctions, getting a Diploma pass or Senior Certificate and other than this it is a big No. We have come too far to decline our pass rate.”
